With it’s free-wheeling style, borderline double entendres, and zany satire, Laugh-In was an innovative and highly popular variety show of the late 1960s. Running from 1967 to 1973 on NBC, the hour-long comedy show was hosted by veteran nightclub performers Dan Rowan and Dick Martin. A team of bright new performers including Lily Tomlin and Goldie Hawn introduced routines that became part of the slang of the day: “Sock it to me,” “Here comes the judge,” and even “How you doin’ Marshall McLuhan?”
